Yesterday evening, the Woodrow Wilson House held its annual Garden Party fundraiser. Guests toasted with fresh  watermelon cocktails and enjoyed rooftop views of Washington’s Kalorama neighborhood. Lauren judged the hat contest, where  guests of all ages brought fierce competition for categories such as “most creative” and “best use of fresh flowers.”

Inauguration 2013

Posted on January 23, 2013

inauguration

This past weekend, DC played host to 800,000 of its closest friends to inaugurate the second term of President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. N&P celebrated the auspicious occasion by party hopping–at private brunches around town, at Washingtonian’s Starry Night Ball (tickets thanks to Guest of a Guest), and at The Inaugural Ball at the Washington Convention Center. N&P is thrilled to have been front row for this historic moment in our nation’s history–it was a truly memorable and fun filled few days.

Local Libations

Posted on January 17, 2013

drinklocal

Think local, drink local. While we may not have representation in Congress, the DC area now has plenty of options for getting your booze on. // Drive out to nearby Loudoun County, Virginia for a taste of the organic spirits at Catoctin Creek Distillers. On the menu: moonshine, rye, brandy, gorgeous country vistas. // Take in the inauguration festivities from the comfort of your couch while cracking open a local brew from DC Brau. // Tour DC’s first distillery in nearly a century, New Columbia Distillers in Ivy City, who produce Green Hat Gin in small batches. As legend has it, the namesake “Man in the Green Hat” supplied swill to Congress during Prohibition. // And to serve it all, head to Old Town Alexandria to browse the shelves at The Hour, a shop dedicated to gorgeous vintage barware.

Washington Winter Show 2013: The Thrill of the Chase

The show featured a special exhibit from the National Sporting Library and Museum in Middleburg, Virginia, with important pieces like Triple Crown winner Secretariat’s jockey colors and Paul Mellon’s riding boots. Inside the exhibition hall, patrons indulged on champagne and ham biscuits while mulling over the dealers’ wares, including a variety of art, decorative objects, books, and sporting memorabilia. Specimens ranged from the accessible to the extravagant–and many fit the sporting life theme, with handpainted stirrup cups, hunt themed jewelry, oil paintings of prize horses, trompe l’oeil mallards, and antique books on polo, fox hunting, and fly fishing. The show is a must-see for those who appreciate beautiful antiques–or for anyone who needs to outfit a Virginia country estate on the quick. Hours this weekend are 11-8pm Friday and Saturday and 11-5pm Sunday.

On Sunday, Van rounded up some of the Palm Beach crew for a picnic lunch by the pool. The afternoon celebrated the end of a great year with tea sandwiches, cool cucumber cocktails, and sunshine. While the refreshments and company were great, the real life of the party was Van’s puppy Chester, who moved from lap to lap with plenty of kisses for his new friends.

Last Saturday in Palm Beach, the young and young at heart stepped out in style for the 2012 Red Cross Beach Bash at The Beach Club, sponsored by Lilly Pulitzer and the American Red Cross. Guests donned duds in accordance with the “Lilly or Louder” dress code, which included vibrant colors, bold prints, and–of course–Lilly dresses, pants, and blazers, running the gamut from vintage (aka borrowed from mom or dad’s closet) to as-yet-unseen spring 2013 Lilly looks. Guests drank festive Tito’s cocktails while dancing poolside next to live mermaids and inflatable sea urchin sculptures–all in keeping with the event’s “Under the Sea” theme.

Last Saturday and Sunday, the 58th running of the Virginia Fall Races were held in Glenwood Park in Middleburg, Virginia, to benefit Inova Loudoun Healthcare Foundation and the Glenwood Park Trust. BwB x N&P Brunch

Posted on September 24, 2012

Last Saturday, we teamed up with Cori Sue Morris, co-founder of Bitches who Brunch, the D.C.-based website recently named Best Blog by Washingtonian and “Favorite Foodies” by the Washington Post’s DC Tweeps, for a perfect afternoon at Lauren’s favorite spot, Town Hall, in Glover Park.  The food was flawless, the mimosas were flowing, the guests were glam, and conversation trailed into the late afternoon.  Check out the rest of the photos on our Facebook Page (& “like” us while you’re at it!).
