This is the fifth post in our series “Running Mates,” showcasing chic comrades of N&P for their sartorial smarts and their enterprising insight. This month, we feature White House staffer and Becky’s Fund board member Frances Holuba.

–

As one of the youngest staffers in the National Security Council at the White House, Fran works hard to earn her stripes and keep U.S. foreign policy fashion-forward. You won’t find her padding through the West Wing in anything but pumps despite the demanding hours. Fran’s style is a vibrant blend of her interests and influences; she favors classic pieces with visually interesting cuts and bohemian flair. Fran has no lack of role models preceding her in the halls of the White House–like powerhouses Hillary Clinton and Jackie Kennedy–and she continues their legacy with a daily rotation of a-line dresses, tailored blazers, and stylish pantsuits.

Incorporating her love of fashion and business, Fran started her own event planning company while waiting for her White House security clearance. The company utilizes local designers and small business owners. Currently, Fran focuses her talents on fundraising as an executive board member of Becky’s Fund, a local nonprofit that strives to prevent dating and domestic violence. She’s currently working on an upcoming fashion show called “Walk This Way,” highlighting professional athletes taking a stand against domestic violence and walking the runway in designer duds.

Running Mates: Max Sinsteden

This is the fourth post in our monthly series “Running Mates,” showcasing chic comrades of N&P for their sartorial smarts and their enterprising insight. This month, we feature decorator Max Sinsteden of Olasky & Sinsteden, who previously appeared on N&P for his healthy smoothie skills.

–

A devoted aesthete, decorator and stylist Max Sinsteden has been designing ever since he and Van tacked up nautical charts in his dorm room at Choate. His knack for smaller spaces landed his compact college digs in New York Magazine–and trust us, you’ve seen it on Pinterest. Experiences working with decorating greats like Charlotte Moss andDavid Easton led him to start his eponymous company, Olasky & Sinsteden, where he and partner Catherine Olasky spruce up homes from Houston to Hyde Park. While beautiful interior work is his calling card, we also love his eye-catching personal style, where bright staples and a little DIY knowhow (custom grosgrain taped blazers, anyone?) make Max a master of Connecticut prep. Here, he unpacks his Globe-Trotter trunk, styling a Palm Beach tableau around a vintage wicker-lined Fiat Jolly.

This is the third post in our monthly series “Running Mates,” showcasing chic comrades of N&P for their sartorial smarts and their enterprising insight. This month, we caught up with Guest of a Guest’s DC editrix Sophie Pyle.

–

Third-generation Washingtonian Sophie Pyle was once known around town as the feisty brunette on “Blonde Charity Mafia.” She’s now at the helm of the DC bureau of society snapshot site Guest of a Guest. Sophie describes her style as “preppy with an edge.” Here, she pairs classic staple pieces with trendy accents, like framing an Ann Hand pin with shabby chic hair, and letting leather bracelets peek out from under her cashmere Brooks Brothers coat.

Running Mates: Elizabeth & Paige Hill (Part I)

Posted on November 28, 2012

This is the second post in our monthly series “Running Mates,” showcasing chic comrades of N&P for their sartorial smarts and their enterprising insight. This month, we caught up with sisters Elizabeth and Paige Hill, Californians brightening up the District with their sunny dispositions and colorful closets.

–

Pictured above is our friend Elizabeth Hill (left). Elizabeth is the Director of Corporate and Social Responsibility at Rubicon Global, a sustainable waste stream solutions company. Elizabeth’s passion for reducing waste also influences her wardrobe: she invests in long-lasting, classic apparel rather than trendy items that can end up getting tossed out at the end of the season. Elizabeth loves vintage jackets, jewel-toned sweaters, demure party dresses, and anything in black. She swears by her Cole Haan pumps because they are feminine yet comfortable–allowing her to dance all night.

ON ELIZABETH • JACKET: Yves Saint Laurent (vintage, borrowed from mom) // SWEATER: J.Crew // SKIRT: Vince // HEELS: Cole Haan // EARRINGS: Vintage {similar} // SUNGLASSES: Thierry Lasry {similar} // SCARF: Hermès // BUCKLE RING: Vintage {similar}

Elizabeth’s younger sister, Paige (right), arrived in Washington three years ago by way of Elizabeth’s sofa. Shortly after arriving, Paige took a job as a journalist and met a handsome D.C. native who will become her husband this February. Paige currently covers national health care issues for a daily publication—which means very early mornings (Ray-Bans and Laura Mercier concealer), long days (ballet flats), and caffeine (Dolcezza lattes). But that doesn’t stop Paige from bringing vintage flair to the office—after all, it was Rosalind Russell in the 1940′s film “His Girl Friday” who first inspired her to the career. Paige loves anything with a story behind it–be it a necklace from travels in Central America or Art Deco handbags handed down through the family–and living near Georgetown’s antique stores only fuels her passion for unique finds.

ON PAIGE • JACKET: Zara {similar} // TURTLENECK: Splendid // SKIRT: BCBG {different color} // BOOTS: Cole Haan {similar} // CLUTCH: YSL {similar} // TIGHTS: Wolford // SUNGLASSES: Ray-Ban // JADE NECKLACE W/MAYAN CALENDAR: Central America find

Running Mates: Cori Sue Morris

Posted on October 1, 2012

Today, we debut our first post in the monthly series “Running Mates,” showcasing chic comrades of N&P for their sartorial smarts and their enterprising insight.

–

Pictured above is our friend Cori Sue Morris, co-founder of Bitches who Brunch, the DC-based website recently named Best Blog by Washingtonian and “Favorite Foodies” by the Washington Post’s DC Tweeps. The Bitches provide their readers with fresh content every weekday, starting with Monday’s This Week events calendar and continuing with District Divas event and party recaps, Lust List fashion posts and Bitchtastic Brunch reviews throughout the week. A lover of fashion, Cori Sue loves mixing prints, nautical and classically preppy ensembles, sky-high heels, Tory Burch flats, pink lipstick and a good arm party—preferably accessorized by a handsome man in a bowtie. Cori’s become something of a social media maven in DC, so we are happy to kick off the series with two of her favorite fall looks.
