Giveaway: Strong Boalt Swim Trunks

Posted on May 22, 2013

sb giveaway

This weekend officially kicks off summer 2013, and we’re celebrating by giving away a pair of trunks from one of Van’s favorite swim purveyors–Strong Boalt–founded by our Palm Beach neighbor and pal Amanda Boalt. We’re particularly fond of Strong Boalt’s signature maritime prints rendered in eye-popping colors. And they’re not just for the boys–Lauren’s a fan of sporting them rolled up with a bikini top and a linen shirt.

–

TO ENTER: Like Strong Boalt and N&P on Facebook, follow Strong Boalt and N&P on Twitter, and comment below where you’d wear your Strong Boalt trunks this summer if you win! Extra points for creativity. Contest closes 11:59pm on Wednesday May 29th.

Recently, Lauren has been loving womenswear brand Ramy Brook, founded three years ago by fashion insider Ramy Sharp. These slouchy silk pants are a great summer staple–with the right shirt, they transition perfectly from a lunch date into a cocktail look.

Remembering Lilly Pulitzer

Posted on April 8, 2013

lillypulitzerinmemory

We mourn the loss of Palm Beach legend Lilly Pulitzer Rousseau, who passed away yesterday at 81. Born from practical sensibilities, Lilly began creating simple shift dresses in 1959; the loud tropical prints disguised the citrus stains from her juice stand. Her eponymous line took off after First Lady (and prep school classmate) Jackie Kennedy sported a Lilly dress while on vacation. Lilly’s designs captured the casual joie de vivre associated with island living; they quickly became a resortwear staple and a calling card for the preppy Southampton-to-South Florida set. While the women’s designs were seen as demure staples to pair with pearls and Jack Rogers, the limited collection of menswear through the “Men’s Stuff” label was peacocking at its finest–with her extravagant prints festooning “go-to-hell” blazers and pants. But Lilly the woman was more than her namesake brand. She was known around the Island as a gracious hostess, often throwing impromptu brunches for her many children and grandchildren and their friends. She will be dearly missed, both in the Palm Beach community she called home and by her multitude of fans, who live to carry on her legacy for the next generation.

Running Mates: Max Sinsteden

Posted on April 4, 2013

running mates msDSC_6441_read_edit4 maxcollage2maxcollage

This is the fourth post in our monthly series “Running Mates,” showcasing chic comrades of N&P for their sartorial smarts and their enterprising insight. This month, we feature decorator Max Sinsteden of Olasky & Sinsteden, who previously appeared on N&P for his healthy smoothie skills.

–

A devoted aesthete, decorator and stylist Max Sinsteden has been designing ever since he and Van tacked up nautical charts in his dorm room at Choate. His knack for smaller spaces landed his compact college digs in New York Magazine–and trust us, you’ve seen it on Pinterest. Experiences working with decorating greats like Charlotte Moss andDavid Easton led him to start his eponymous company, Olasky & Sinsteden, where he and partner Catherine Olasky spruce up homes from Houston to Hyde Park. While beautiful interior work is his calling card, we also love his eye-catching personal style, where bright staples and a little DIY knowhow (custom grosgrain taped blazers, anyone?) make Max a master of Connecticut prep. Here, he unpacks his Globe-Trotter trunk, styling a Palm Beach tableau around a vintage wicker-lined Fiat Jolly.

The distressed, edgy look of these jeans is nicely balanced by the demure vibe of this classic tweed jacket. The look is perfect for day & night and proves to be appropriate for the season’s transition.

Part two of loving Lilly P. introduces Lauren in the Pink Gators shorts. Both of us gravitated toward this cool croc print in his/hers manifestations. These shorts complement any bright color and go with loafers and sandals alike.

A few months back, Lilly Pulitzer invited us to the opening of their gorgeous new store in Tysons Galleria, which featured handpainted decor by Lilly’s talented print designers and fun Palm Beach-themed fitting rooms (check them out on our Instagram feed). Van picked out this green gator-print bow tie, which would look right at home at Easter brunch this weekend.

One morning returning from a walk along the Palm Beach Lake Trail, I popped into a new boutique, Alene Too.  It was love at first sight; I wanted the entire store in my closet.

The bright colors and vivid pattern on this dress immediately caught my eye.  It is perfect for the sunny weather & if winter ever leaves, D.C. – for a spring outing in the District.

Last week in Palm Beach, Lauren teamed up with one of her favorite island shopping destinations, Rapunzel’s Closet, to shoot her picks from their colorful and ever so beach chic collection. Lauren gravitated toward their cozy knits and casual shorts for a comfortable island living vibe.
